MaterialDistrict Utrecht provides answers to all these questions and is the only annual event in the Netherlands that brings together material manufacturers and specifiers from all sectors of spatial design.
The 19th edition of MaterialDistrict Utrecht will take place from 4 to 6 March 2026 at the Werkspoorkathedraal in Utrecht. With 150 exhibitors — ranging from established manufacturers to innovative start-ups and designers — a materials exhibition featuring 250 carefully selected materials, and a lecture programme with around 60 inspiring speakers, the event offers a unique opportunity to see, touch and truly understand the latest material innovations. Meet suppliers, discover real-world applications, and stay up to date with the latest developments in sustainability, circularity and (interior) architecture.

This year, everything revolves around NextNow: materials and solutions that are no longer future concepts, but ready to be applied today in architecture, interior design and public space.
The challenge is not the lack of sustainable alternatives — they already exist. The real step forward lies in broader adoption. During #MDU2026, you will discover a mature generation of biobased, circular and recycled materials that are already proving their value in real-world projects.
Material Exhibition
A permanent and essential feature is the materials exhibition, showcasing no fewer than 250 carefully selected materials. Here, the focus is not on brands, but on the material itself. Visitors can see, touch and explore how new biobased resources, recycled waste streams and innovative production processes translate into concrete, real-world applications.
High-profile lecture programME
MaterialDistrict Utrecht is renowned for its high-profile lecture programme, where leading national and international architects, scientists, designers and other experts share the latest developments in the field of materials. In 2026, two theatre programmes will once again run simultaneously, featuring an impressive line-up of no fewer than 60 speakers sharing their knowledge and experience with visitors. Highlights include Tomorrow’s Timber Talks – The Timber Truth Sessions, the Young Talent Programme, and The Leather Lectures.
