Head of the Department of Architectural Engineering and Technology at TU Delft, Andy van den Dobbelsteen is also Professor of Climate Design & Sustainability. In this position, he teaches and undertakes research in the field of sustainable construction, with the core climatic design of buildings as a central focus of sustainable energy systems for the built environment. The key concept here is ‘smart and bioclimatic design’, where local conditions (e.g. climate, soil, environment) can be optimally used in the design of cities and buildings, thus resulting in a sustainable use of resources. From this position, Andy has undertaken so-called energy potential studies, which form a basis for better, more sustainably functioning regional, provincial and municipal plans.
